This year’s Young Geographer of the Year competition is now open for entries.
The competition, run in partnership with Geographical magazine, gives students the opportunity to explore the potential geography holds by answering the question “Where can geography take you?” Entries could explore how geography might take you to a particular place, help you in a particular career or help you understand one of the many challenges facing our world. There are four categories for entrants: KS2 (pupils aged 9-11); KS3 (pupils aged 11-14); KS4 (pupils aged 14-16); and KS5 (pupils aged 16-18). The first three categories require pupils to submit an A3 poster, while A Level students must submit a 1,500 word essay or an Esri Story Map containing no more than 1,500 words. All entries must illustrate where geography can take you and adhere to the entry criteria of the relevant age category.
Submissions can be made by individual students or teachers.
The Rex Walford Award runs alongside the Young Geographer of the Year competition and is open to trainee, newly qualified or early career teachers. Teachers must produce a scheme of work, covering at least three lessons, related to the theme of where geography can take you. We are also interested to see examples of pupils’ work that has been produced during these lessons.
The deadline for both competitions is 5.00pm on Friday 18 October.
