If so, apply now to become one of the speakers in the 2019 Microlectures event.
Geographical journeys – microlectures is an informal event organised by the Society’s Younger Members’ Committee which aims to inspire, entertain and engage the audience of both Society members and the public about our world. Each talk is just 10 minutes long, with an additional five minutes of audience questions, and must have a geographical focus and share aspects of what was learnt on the journey. It’s not an evening for experienced speakers or academic presentations, but a chance for the next generation to try their hand at public speaking.
Last year’s speakers included Charlie Knight who walked from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail to raise awareness of mental health; Chaz Powell who walked the length of the Zambezi River and Elspeth Luke who ran Scotland’s watershed in 34 days. All speakers must be over 16 years of age and be a Fellow or member of the Society at the time of the event.
