The Migrants on the margins team were planning next steps for the Society’s Field Research Programme earlier this week by holding a writing workshop at the Society. Led by principal investigator Professor Mike Collyer from the University of Sussex, the workshop highlighted how far the project has come since its launch in 2016 and looked ahead to develop plans for papers, future workshops and a week of educational events here at the Society in October.
Kicking off with a series of discussions on methodology and the sharing of initial findings from Colombo, Dhaka, Harare and Hargeisa, the team discussed the next steps for publishing their results and disseminating their findings to a variety of audiences. Dr Laura Hammond, Professor Joann McGregor and Professor Andrew Baldwin who lead the research in Hargeisa, Harare and Dhaka respectively, led the discussions which also included Dominic Kniveton, Professor of Climate Science and Society at the University of Sussex, and Dr Nishat Awan, Senior Lecturer in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths University of London.
The team will give the first glimpse of their findings to Fellows and members in a Monday night lecture on 1 October. The Society has also been working closely with the researchers to produce a range of educational resources for teachers to use in the classroom, which will be made available later in the summer.
