Over the past year, several of the Society’s 31 Research Groups have held events to celebrate 50 years since they formed.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the Geographies of Health and Wellbeing Research Group (GHWRG) are inviting individuals to contribute to an exhibition of images that speak to the theme of health geography. Submissions will be accepted until summer 2023. Find out more and view the online exhibition, which features a selection of images already submitted.
The Rural Geography Research Group (RGRG) marked their 50th anniversary with a mini-conference on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 August in conjunction with the Society’s Annual International Conference. The event involved a number of hybrid sessions and panel discussions which reflected on the theme ‘Half a Century of Rural Geography; Looking Back, Looking Forward’. Follow the RGRG on Twitter to view images from the event and keep up to date with other upcoming activities as they continue to celebrate their half century.
Towards the end of 2021, the Population Geography Research Group (PopGRG) celebrated their 50th with a webinar. Alongside contributions from members of the group, a panel discussion included perspectives from Professor Phil Rees (University of Leeds), Dr George Tan (University of Adelaide) and Dr James Esson (Loughborough University). Following their archiving project, the group have also started to develop a timeline of key events in the history of the research group.
