Upcoming fieldwork training for teachers

As part of the Society’s commitment to support teachers to provide meaningful, fun and curriculum relevant fieldwork experiences, we are running a range of training events over the coming months for both primary and secondary geography teachers.

Well-planned and safely run fieldwork can benefit students’ learning and personal development. The Society has a wealth of knowledge and resources to ensure that teachers and schools are equipped with the skills they need to provide safe and responsible fieldwork and expeditions for their students.

Our established and popular Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) Training courses are accredited by the Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel and make use of current government guidance relating to school visits. They also address the legal and practical issues of organising visits both in the UK and abroad. We have courses suitable for those new to the role of EVC, and for existing school visits coordinators who wish to re-validate their training and update themselves on current issues.

• EVC Update workshop – Wednesday 16 March, 9.45am-4.00pm, in person

• Educational Visits Coordinator training – Thursday 17 March, 9.45am-4.30pm, in person

• Go local: great ideas for fieldwork in and around your school grounds - Tuesday 3 May, 5.00pm-6.30pm, online for secondary school teachers

• Fieldwork for primary geography – Wednesday 18 May, 2.00pm-4.30pm, online

• Fieldwork for primary geography – Friday 20 May, 2.00pm-4.30pm, in person

• Fieldwork essentials for early career teachers – Monday 20 June, 10.00am-4.00pm, in person
